East Texas is built on the legacy of strong men and women. In the late 1800’s, when our state was vast and young, pioneers tamed the land, building the towns of today. In the 1930’s, as depression raged, families followed oil into these parts, building schools, paving roads, and laying a foundation for today’s steady growth. In the 1970’s and 80’s, development in the form of planned communities and reservoirs
made way for tens of
thousands of visitors, many of whom decided to stay. Today the
people of East Texas continue to inspire. Here are a few
of their stories.
